Kamyanske is looking forward to the start of a large theatrical fiesta - from May 17 to 24, the city will be hosting the XI International Theater Festival “Classics Today”. 15 performances staged on the works of classic playwrights will be brought to the city by leading theaters from Lithuania, Poland, USA, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Ukraine.

The main objective of the festival-competition is the promotion of dramatic works of world classics, the education of the younger generation of spectators on samples of classical drama, the popularization of theatrical art. exchange of experience between creative teams.

Academic Music and Drama Theater named after Lesya Ukrainka in Kamyanske city

The festival was founded in 1993 and takes place once every two or three years. During this time, he went from regional to international, in which more than 100 theaters from 16 countries took part. The festival will take place on two stages: the Main (Theater named after Lesya Ukrainka, 250th anniversary of the city sq., 2) and New (Nikolai Lysenko st., 24).

The festival has a competitive nature. The international jury of the festival included theater leaders and theater critics from Belarus (Veronika Yarmolinska and Zhanna Lashkevich), Lithuania (Maria Tanana), Georgia (Konstantin Abashidze) and Ukraine (Yury Yushchenko, Elena Zhatko). The international jury determines eight winners in the following nominations: Grand Prix "Best Performance", "Best Direction", "Best Female Role", "Best Male Role", "Best Female Role of the Second Plan", "Best Male Role of the Second Plan", "The Best Young Actress of the Festival", "The Best Young Actor of The Festival". Winners receive diplomas and statuette as a symbol of the festival (by sculptor Garnik Khachatryan).

After the show, the participants of the performance (at their request) will meet with the jury, their creative work will receive a professional assessment in an open review.

Within the framework of the festival, conferences, seminars, master classes, exhibitions are held, and other creative projects are carried out that contribute to the professional growth of stage masters.

This year, master classes will be held on the New Stage for the actors: on May 18 and 19 - the Physical Theater (teachers Alia McNamara, USA, Ashland), on May 20 and 21 - the Work of the Actor With the Subject (teacher Igor Kazakov, Belarus, Mogilev) May 22 and 23 - Stage Fencing (teacher Oleg Royenko, Ukraine, Kiev).

On May 17, in honor of the opening of the festival, according to tradition, a festive carnival procession will take place along the central streets of the city with the participation of artists from the Theater of Kamyanske city, guests of the festival, creative teams of the city and everyone.

On May 18 and 19, theatrical excursions “Where the city begins” will take place in the historical part of Kamyanske (Upper Colony). Place of collection: Cathedral Square. Collection time: 11:00

On May 17, at 15:30, the Memorandum on creative cooperation between the Dnipropetrovsk interregional branch of the National Union of Theater Workers of Ukraine and the creative union “Theatrical Society of Georgia” will be signed in the Blue Hall of the New Stage.

On May 24, on Friday from 20.45 on the square of the 250th anniversary of the city (the square in front of the theater) the closing ceremony of the festival and awarding of winners will be held. Visitors expect a concert show program and fireworks.
